Police say farewell at MSG

In 1986, The Police walked off stage after playing a six song set, which featured U2’s Bono on vocals of “Invisible Sun,” after playing the end of a benefit concert for Amnesty International at Giant Stadium in New Jersey. After that, the biggest band in the world just disappeared, and for 22 years, aside from a two-and-off set at Stings wedding and a four song set at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, were gone for good, with a promise from their leader, the well-versed Sting, that he would have to be “certifiably insane” to reunite the band. The Police wound up their 2 year world reunion tour on August 7th to a capacity crowd. The power trio of Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers wowed fans for the final time at Madison Square Garden to benefit city organizations. The tour, which sold nearly 3.7 million tickets world-wide and grossed nearly $358,000,000 over 151 shows, ends up as the third largest tour in history. Read the rest of this entry »
